Colorado Charlie Cowgirls
2025 – This artwork started as a hand-drawn ballpoint sketch, later transferred onto large wooden panels and finished with acrylic markers. The piece features cowgirls riding desert animals — playful, bold, and slightly provocative. The mural combines raw linework with layered colour accents, creating an image that fits the energetic, adventurous vibe of Colorado Charlie’s DJ nights.
Colorado Charlie black light mural
2025 – Colorado Charlie is a beach club where world-famous DJs play deep into the night. The brief: create a mural in Wild West style — gold mines, cacti, desert creatures, pistols, and a party that never sleeps. The piece had to live both day and night, so I used white for daylight contrast and fluorescent green to glow under black light after dark. Drawn freehand with acrylic markers on wood — no sketch, just flow — the mural grew organically, with input from the club’s crew to make it a piece that belongs to everyone who works and parties there.
UV Discovery
2022 – UV Discovery reveals the funny facts of the ocean through an interactive light experience. Using UV torches, visitors uncover invisible infographics and illustrations that appear like magic under ultraviolet light. Created with UV-reactive ink and custom stencils, each discovery point combines a scientific facts — such as “94% of life on Earth is aquatic” — with artistic visuals. Studio Arne Boon is the creative mind behind the concept of the interactive treasure hunt seen in the Den at Soneva Jani resort in Maldives. A sculptural bamboo charging station invites visitors to grab a torch and explore. This playful treasure hunt turns science education into an immersive journey through art, light, and marine life.
Doodles on a rainy day
2022 – 2024 My son’s pencils are bright, colourful, and delightfully basic. When it rains, we entertain each other by drawing the weirdest things. Well — I do most of the entertaining, really. He occasionally suggests a colour or medium (pencil or paint, if I’m lucky), but that’s about it. These little creations are my 6 a.m. expressions of rainy-day boredom.
When tigers used to smoke
2023 – “When tigers used to smoke” is a traditional Korean saying meaning ‘once upon a time‘. The tiger in Korean folklore is a figure of moral lessons and human traits. Stories often depict tigers outwitted by clever villagers or other animals. In my illustration the rabbit helps the tiger presenting fire for his pipe because the rabbit embodies the spirit of selflessness and the importance of fulfilling one’s purpose, even at the cost of personal comfort. I have given the rabbit power through fire, but will the rabbit be eaten by the tiger? The duality represents the foundation of my creative work — connecting storytelling, multiple interpretations, symbolism, and a bit of absurd mystery. And I love tigers, so an illustration inspired by “When tigers used to smoke” was unevitable.
Nihiwatu Resort Sumba
2015 & 2013 – For Nihiwatu — a remote luxury resort on Sumba known for its untouched nature, deep cultural roots, and the world-famous surf break God’s Left — I created an illustrated map capturing the character of the island and the resort. The artwork highlights key locations, natural landmarks, its iconic wave and birds to spot in the wild. It serves both as a practical guide for guests and a visual celebration of the island.
Rocket Garage
2012 – Rocket Garage was an artist management and model agency with offices in The Hague and New York, focusing on models who also had musical talent — whether playing an instrument or singing. Their roster embodied the cool, multi-talented spirit of rock-and-roll fashion culture. I was commissioned to create an illustration capturing the essence of each model, inspired by their short bios and unique personalities. The result was a vibrant collective portrait that celebrated individuality and attitude, featured in the agency’s online portfolio and promotional materials.
Rip Curl Bali
2009 – During my internship at Rip Curl in Bali, I created illustrations and graphic prints for the Girls Fashion Collection. The tropical surroundings and surf culture were a constant source of inspiration. Each design was a mixture of Rip Curl’s energetic brand identity and my own hand-drawn, playful style. It was a period of creative freedom and experimentation, where I translated the spirit of Bali into wearable art.
UFO
2007 – This black-and-white line drawing began as a collection of traced airplane parts and engine components. By reshuffling and recomposing these technical elements I constructed a new form that suggests the silhouette of a UFO.
Real mechanical details were transformed into an imagined aircraft. The result is a drawing that feels both engineered and otherworldly, bridging the logic of technical drafts with the freedom of speculative design.
Logo Designs
2010 – 2025 When designing a logo, I always start by asking clients to describe their business in one clear sentence — it helps uncover the essence of their brand. From there, I develop the design in several rounds: from quick sketch concepts to refined compositions and finally, the finished mark.
A strong logo should tell a story at a glance — and still be recognisable at the size of a postage stamp.
